Whitekirk Village

Over hundreds of years, couples have come to be married in the beautiful Parish Church of Whitekirk and Tyninghame, and we are delighted that you are considering doing so too.

You don’t need to be a member of St Mary’s to be married in this church but what you do need to consider is that if you want to get married in our church you choose for a Christian marriage, held before God, during which you will make vows of love and faithfulness to each other and God’s blessing will be asked for you and for your relationship.

What do I do first?

In the first instance you will need to discuss with the locum minister the possibility of your marriage taking place here and her availability to conduct the marriage service. The next stage is to confirm a date and time.

The locum minister will meet with you several times, to get to know you and to discuss the Order of Service, readings, hymns and other arrangements.

How much will it cost?

The services of the locum minister are given free, however, a payment is requested for the use of the Church and for the services of an organist. . If special rehearsals involving soloists are required, additional fees should be discussed with the organist.

Currently the fee is set at £750 for non-members and £300 for members. It is payable to St Mary’s Whitekirk and Tyninghame Parish Church at the latest 14 days before the date of the marriage.

Music

The organist will be able to advise you on music for the Bridal Procession and the Recessional. You may also wish to include a special piece of music to be played or sung during the signing of the Marriage Schedule. The locum minister will put you in touch with the organist.

The marriage schedule

By law you are required to submit Marriage Notice Forms to the Registrar of the district in which the marriage is to take place. Please contact the local Registrar’s Office for more information.

Other information

A rehearsal of the wedding ceremony is usually held the evening before or earlier in that week as suits both the locum minister and the bridal party. Please bring the marriage schedule with you at the rehearsal as without it the marriage cannot take place.

Confetti is not allowed in the church under any circumstances but natural flower petals, fresh or dried are permitted outside the building.

The contact person for your florist should they need access to the church to arrange the flowers is Mrs Christine Stephen. She can be called on 01620 894556
